The Sovereign Congress of African Leaders (SCAL) in Collaboration with the Township Economic Commission of South Africa (TECSA) Host the ROYAL20 Media Launch
NORTH WEST PROVINCE, SOUTH AFRICA – July 16, 2025 – The Sovereign Congress of African Leaders (SCAL), in proud partnership with the TECSA Foundation, is set to officially launch the ROYAL20 (R20) – a groundbreaking G20-aligned Engagement Group. This initiative will formally elevate the voice and leadership of Africa’s traditional monarchs within the global development discourse.
In a powerful and historic move, the ROYAL20 positions African kings, queens, and traditional leaders at the center of international dialogue on the most pressing global issues of our time, including climate justice, equitable trade, education, land reform, and sustainable development. This initiative asserts Africa’s role not merely as a stakeholder but as a sovereign, strategic partner in shaping the world’s future.
The launch will take place under the resonant theme: “From the Throne to the Global Stage; Enabling Royal Leadership for a Prosperous Future,” aligning seamlessly with the G20 2025 theme of “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability.”
For centuries, Africa’s royal houses have governed with deep ancestral wisdom, serving as custodians of land and resources, and embodying a people-centered approach to leadership. In rural and township communities across the continent, monarchs remain trusted authorities, peacebuilders, and crucial enablers of development.
The ROYAL20 recognizes that true global solidarity necessitates the inclusion of all forms of leadership, including traditional and indigenous leadership. It affirms that equality must extend to all systems of governance, and that genuine sustainability is unattainable without indigenous knowledge, stewardship, and participation.
Key Objectives of the ROYAL20 include:
- To formalize the inclusion of African monarchs in global governance through the G20 engagement process.
- To promote Africa’s traditional leadership as a legitimate force for social, economic, and political transformation.
- To build diplomatic and developmental bridges between African royal institutions and global powers.
- To assert the role of monarchs as custodians of Africa’s land, minerals, agriculture, water, and human capital.
- To foster long-term partnerships with governments, academic institutions, civil society, and the private sector.
- To create space for research, innovation, and education rooted in indigenous African systems.
The ROYAL20 is more than a platform; it is a profound statement of Africa’s sovereignty, heritage, and strategic intent. It issues a resounding call to the international community, including G20 member states, development agencies, academia, and investors, to engage with African royalty as partners, not patrons.
This launch reaffirms that Africa’s future will not be negotiated in its absence. Our kings and queens are not merely ceremonial figures; they are living institutions of governance, wisdom, and legitimacy, and their time on the global stage has come.
